American Ginseng

American Ginseng is represented by dried roots of a few species of the genus panax which are rich in B vitamins, minerals, but the most important ingredient is ginsenosides. Ginseng is known to fight cancer, create more energy, lower blood pressure, and to improve athletic performance.
The latest research done on soldiers has proven that there is no convincing evidence of true effectiveness of ginseng. However, a laboratory study found that an American ginseng really inhibits the growth of breast cancer. Some patients also experienced better mood and activity at a daily dose of 1200 mg of ginseng per day.
The main problem today is that most companies use very small amounts of ginseng natural herb to their products. As a result, one can hardly feel the effectiveness of this or that product. The recommended dose of ginseng is 200-500mg a day, but most of typical products contain only 50mg of ginseng. The same can be said about different energy drinks and juice smoothies containing ginseng.

American ginseng is a plant whose root is used for making medicines and as a source of a great number of vitamins. It is mostly safe adults and children when used for a short period of time. However, it can lead to some side effects such as diarrhea, trouble sleeping (insomnia), itching, nervousness, and headache. In some people, American ginseng might also result into fast heartbeat, high blood pressure or low blood pressure, vaginal bleeding in women, breast tenderness, and other side effects. There are also uncommon side effects such as liver damage, a severe rash (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), and severe allergic reaction.
American ginseng should not be taken by pregnant and breast-feeding women. One of the chemicals in ginseng is linked to possible birth defects. American ginseng is able to decrease blood sugar. So, in people with diabetes American ginseng might lower it too much if taken with medications for lowering blood sugar. Hormone-sensitive conditions such as uterine cancer, breast cancer, endometriosis, ovarian cancer, or uterine fibroids exclude using American ginseng, as it may worsen the state.
